we are trying to change the narrative there are some women that actually want to do this job they shouldn't look that they are girls that they are limited to certain things the more they are seeing us the more they are inspired [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] good morning abuja this is the wake up show in the news this morning the minister for road works and housing has reacted to the demolitions [Music] i am a workaholic i took after my dad i've been trained right from childhood i can do all things this is what my father always told me and this was never leave me my father was a driver with the nigerian police force this is the first vehicle that we started teaching me on is a poju 504 yeah like that [Music] i'd always dream of having my own automobile company prince is an auto lady workshop a female owned garage your first contact should be a woman your service advisor should be a woman so that's the concept that we are trying to work is geared towards empowering women i want them to be able to fend for themselves i learned almost everything here she trained me everyday like that something girls it was kind of hard you a lady in a man's world it would not be her nobody employed me utterly herself she was convinced i was okay for the job i became a mechanic i can fix cars she's doing well she can do the workshop even while i'm not around i'm seeing myself now in juliet and i'm happy everybody will be like yeah you go in time so i'm going to the mercado and they'll be like wow a lady doing mechanic so what are you going to do we just want to service the car they need to service when i started the job fully and customer comes to the workshop they want to say please can i talk to a male they always think maybe i'm a receptionist mechanical world is being seen as a man's field yeah and this my friend asked her can you do this job he said yes she laughed sometimes i might want to get angry to say women they do mechanics and once i ask them questions they should not believe that i know what i'm actually doing she is the chairman now director you can imagine it was a thing of joy so everything came to shape within the space of five years one day i saw some people's business were demolished i said how would they destroy somebody's property without any compensation or giving him time to move and march 2020 it happened to me people were there we're trying to save some of our tents that we couldn't save one of my staff narrowly escaped from a building with a child i was thinking about my stuff oh i tell them no workshop no business again no location nothing nothing my father called me that night and said that i shouldn't give up he said [Music] if my dad was here today i would have let him know that i am succeeding i am growing beyond expectation and i know he's proud of me anyways and i'm sure he's there i got support from my brother and my husband sold my cars sold some of my valuables so that i can gather some money we were able to renovate the new place we got within three months i'm happy because i am back on my feet better remember the advertisement oh yeah come to lady garage we will fix your car thank you being resilient to me means somebody that's not ready to give up somebody that is ready to fight i want my children to have a better life and for things to be easier for them i would like to inspire more and more women to dream bigger than i am dreaming my goal is to increase female participation in the automotive industry we need more women to come on board we are not many and that is why we are here to inspire them i have three girls i've started telling them that they can do engineering they can be pilots they can do everything and i believe in them [Music] you
